Item types are constructed on a common set of attributes, establishing a standard that facilitates your users' ability to identify and locate inventory. This standard ensures you can easily pinpoint similar items.

At the same time, the solution considers an individual domain’s potential need to build upon this base. To that end, all levels of administrator can apply optional attributes.

For a user working with inventory, key attributes appear in the Line Item column of the Manage Inventory table, such as the item's name, size, and pack information. This is designed to help the user identify inventory items. All attributes appear in the item's detail page.

For detailed procedures, refer to Work with Attributes.

Standard and Optional

Standard attributes are common to all item types and kits. All standard attributes appear in the item's inventory details page. Standard attributes include availability, cost, and funding source, as well as pack, purchasing, and quantity details. By selecting the check box for Standard Attributes, Customer Administrators determine whether an attribute is required when managing related inventory.

If you are a Customer Administrator, you can specify optional attributes for item types and items. As an administrator for a region or location, you can work with optional attributes at the kit and item level. Optional attributes include a variety of other details, including model number, maintenance tracking, size, item owner, and expiration date. By selecting the check box for Optional Attributes, Customer Administrators determine whether an attribute is required when managing related inventory.

Required

Authorized users make attributes required, which requires the user to indicate a value for that attribute any time they work with that item or kit. For example, your client-level administrator may require that, for every item in inventory, the item's availability, cost, and on hand quantity must be specified. The solution will not let the user save the work they are doing with this inventory until they provide data for each required attribute.

Order

When working with item types, kits, and items, an administrator can change the order in which attributes display to users. It is as simple as clicking an attribute in the table and dragging and dropping it where you want it to appear in the list.
